The view west is a bit sadder as it seems to be used as a tip.

Road bridge over old railway at Riseborough Hagg
Magnificent bridge over single line track bed. It has three spans but only the middle one had a track going under it.
It's here.
It's here.
Arch in embankment between Pickering and Riseborough Hagg
Not a brilliant picture, the iphone is not too good at distance stuff.
This is taken looking south from Marton lane. It shows the embankment
with a small arch part of the way along.
The location of the arch here where you can see the shadow in the embankment.

Why?
Why have I set this site up?
I have always been fascinated by abandoned structures and things like dis-used railway stations.
I am lucky enough to live in Ryedale in North Yorkshire which is a very beautiful place indeed.
Years ago there were many railways that criss-crossed the region - the railway came up from the south through Malton and Pickering to Whitby. It also went east to Scarborough from Pickering and west to Thirsk. There was also a line from Thirsk to Driffield via Malton.
There are only two railways running through Ryedale now - the line from York to Scarborough which stops at Malton and the preserved NYMR which runs from Pickering to Whitby.
Over the years I have spotted various traces of old railway lines around the area and I hope to document some of them.
Google map is a very good resource, with the aerial photographs you can easily spot the route of old lines.
Another good resource is http://www.npemap.org.uk/ which lets you look at maps from 1947 (a time when most if not all the lines I am interested in are still in existance).
I am very interested to hear from people who remember using any of the Ryedale lines, I would also like to hear from anyone who owns any land on the old railways lines as I would love to visit.
